Busy Bugs is a versatile toy. Foremost it promotes math readiness. The toy comes with 36 colorful toy bugs, 12 double sided activity cards and 1 activity guide. Children can learn about patterns, strengthen their memories, sort, count, build their language and learn to follow directions.
My child is young still to follow the activity cards but the bugs are still played with. We line them up and talk about the bugs and their colors. He pretends play with them. I have also buried them in rice for him to find and dig out. As per usual with Discovery Toys this toy will grow with my child and I anticipate Busy Bugs being a part of our toy collection for sometime.

Click here to buy Giant Pegboard
Lately my small child and I have been playing a lot with the Giant Pegboard (on sale until Aug 15). It is a sturdy yellow pegboard that comes with 25 pegs in a variety of shapes and colours. We stack the pegs on the board and topple them over, we sort the colours and the shapes and we make necklaces by beading the pieces onto a shoelace. He is learning his colours, strengthening his muscles in his small hands and developing eye/hand coordination all the while having fun! We have been enjoying our Giant Pegboard time.
The neat thing about this toy is that it will grow with him. As he develops he will be able to count, sequence and make patterns with the pieces.
As always the toy comes with a booklet that discusses the benefits of the toy plus gives ideas on games to play with your child.

Click here to purchase Marble Works.
Marble Works is a Discovery Toys big winner. Everyone of all ages enjoy this fun toy. The very young enjoy watching the marbles race through the toys and older children and adults enjoy that plus building new and different raceways for the marbles. (The marbles are small and can pose a hazard to small children!)
The starter set comes with 46 tubes, chutes and bases that can be put together differently each time you play with it. The marbles (10 come in the set) race through the tubes and chutes. My young son is too young to play with toy on his own but he does play with his daddy – and they both LOVE it!
Educationally Marble Works:
– Fosters experimentation
– Promotes thinking skills, logical reasoning ability and construction experimentation
– Explore positional concepts: in, out, on, drop, down, under and through
– Demonstrates the law of gravity, the concept of object permanence and cause and effect
– Helps to develop hand-eye coordination and visual tracking skills
– Practice fine motor dexterity
– Promotes sustained engagement
– Promotes independent play with some limited instruction

The toys box opening party was fun! I got 17 toys (plus business material) all for $140. The toys were varied, fun and educational. There were toys appropriate for babies and toys appropriate for adults. I plan on exploring each toy I have with you on this blog. Tonight’s biggest toy hits were “Marble Works” and “Puzzle Island“.

My toy box has arrived already! I hadn’t expected it until next week. There is a big box in my living room unopened. And that is the way it will remain! That is right. I am deferring the opening of my toy boxes until I share the excitement with other people. It is very tempting, but I am determined to have fun this way. It will be like Christmas in July!

I am officially signed up to be a Discovery Toys Educational Consultant. For $140 I will get $420 worth of toys to play with and show. Why did I join Discovery Toys? For a number of reasons. For one I am impressed with the quality of the toys. Second the toys will encourage my child to grow, learn and develop. Third I like that the toys will grow with my child – there are many layers to a toy. Finally I need to earn income while having a flexible schedule for my family. Now I eagerly await for my toy boxes to arrive!
